I found the final line on the first page in “We Are Seven” to be quite impactful. The line reads, “Then ye are only five.” When I initially read this, I was operating under the assumption that this was the final line of the story. I pictured the narrator (the unnamed male character) saying this in a very matter-of-fact way, crushing the girl’s spirits. My rendition changed after I flipped the page and saw that there was more to the piece. Now, I pictured that line as a turning point in the story and as the part where the first half of the story ends, leaving the second page to begin and conclude with the final half of the story.
With that in mind, I saw the female character becoming increasingly irate, having to repeat herself numerous times to the man who was adamant that instead of there being seven members in her family, only the girl remained.
To properly convey my vision of “We Are Seven,” I will be utilizing the PlayStation 4 game LittleBigPlanet 3 (LBP3), LBP3 has a very strong focus on user-generated content (i.e. levels and characters) that the developer, Media Molecule, placed into the game for interested gamers to play around. With these tools at my disposal, I aim to create a level that shows my interpretation of the piece in a new medium. I will record my gameplay with a capture device to play during class.
My justification for using LBP3 instead of more conventional methods to show the story is that I wouldn’t be constrained by the schedule of other people who might have to adopt the role of certain character during a small production. Additionally, LBP3 would offer me a wealth of tools to let loose my imagination and plenty of room for error.
